Sharing Christ with those who come to Iowa from distant places.

Our outreach to Hispanics in western Iowa gained a significant advantage when Tyson hired Pastor Vogel to serve as

Chaplain at the Denison plant.  Pastor Vogel worked with Hispanics in a previous parish and is fluent in Spanish.  He now assists Pastor Bo Brink with this work in western Iowa.  Their work has depended very much on developing personal

relationships with individuals.  These relationships often start through English as a Second Language (ESL) class or helping with some difficulty unique to persons coming from a different culture.

Bessie Fick has worked in Ames to share the love of Christ with international students, spouses and scholars who come to study at Iowa State University. This is so neat because there are thousands of people who come to the U.S. to gain secular

information and they can go home with eternal salvation.  Many of these people come from countries where we could not send a missionary even if we had plenty of money and eager people to serve there.  Bessie has multiplied her efforts by

involving volunteers from surrounding congregations.  Students have visited churches around the district, taken part in ESL classes or enjoyed the Friday night suppers at Memorial Lutheran
